Welk Resort Group developed a master plan for a resort hotel and residences on Kauai Island, Hawaii. The project spans 17 acres and includes 500,000 square feet of buildings. The team designed studios, typical unit buildings, and a site layout that blends hospitality and residential experiences.
The plan integrates lush landscaping, ocean views, and indoor-outdoor living to reflect Kauai’s natural beauty. Designers focused on creating a vibrant, welcoming environment that supports relaxation and recreation. The project reached completion in 2017 and continues to serve as a destination for travelers seeking comfort and connection to the island.
In Poipu, the County of Kauai and cultural stewards actively preserve and restore significant archaeological sites, including the Kaneiolouma Heiau Complex. This 11-acre preserve contains ancient temple structures, fishponds, shrines, and agricultural features that reflect centuries of Hawaiian life and spirituality. Archaeologists also documented remnants of sugar plantation infrastructure and traditional land divisions during recent field inspections. These efforts ensure that development in the region respects and celebrates its rich cultural heritage.
