Project Highlight:
Central City Comprehensive Plan

There are few projects that come along with more meaning and significance than the Central City design. Central City, Colorado is part of the Central City Black Hawk National Landmark Historic District, which provides its cultural and architectural identity. The city is comprised of a remarkably well-preserved Gold Rush boomtown and relies heavily on historic tourism to survive. In the mid 1990s, Colorado voters passed legislation allowing gaming in three historic cities - Cripple Creek, Black Hawk, and Central City in order to provide revenue to support the waning historic districts and their assets. Central City chose to remain devoted to their historic aesthetic and as a result, meaningful development has not come to the city in decades.
Studio OS was retained to update the Comprehensive Plan and associated regulatory documents in an effort to attract development, breathe new life into the city, and provide a vision for growth in to the future.
Over the few years working there, we have grown very fond of and invested in Central City. To date, it is some of our proudest work.
