An enduring entity
The property, located in the prestigious
North Country Club area of Denver, existed
as a vacant field in a well-maintained,
urban neighborhood. One lot was sited
lengthwise along 8th Avenue, a primary
artery in the city. Cheesman Park, one
of Denver's popular parks, lay across
the street. Two houses were designed to
satisfy the property owner's requirements
to enhance the site and contribute to the
upscale neighborhood. The design solution
addressed the problem of heavy traffic
on one side of the lot with the need for
curb appeal. The architect positioned the
house on the lot adjacent to 8th Avenue
to act as a noise barrier. Concurrently, the
house's placement created a south-facing,
landscaped, open space between the two
new homes. Both homes benefited from
the green, shared courtyard. Street-facing
windows along 8th Avenue were positioned
at a height above the traffic, offering an
unobstructed view of the park greenery and
trees.*
